Ok, so today’s pick isn’t exactly a band or album…but it IS a form of entertainment for sure.
We just got a Roku (XD model) and it is friggin’ killer! A Roku is a tiny little device that taps into your internet and allows you to stream a plethora of content to your TV…in HD! It has both HDMI and standard connection options. You just search through their channel store and add what you want to the device, most of them are free too! Nuclear Blast even has a free channel that allows you to stream the latest videos from their artists. There are also channels for Netflix, Vimeo, Facebook, Crackle (free movies galore), Machinima.com along with plenty of other music related content, news, cartoons, sports and more.
We initially got the Roku for Netflix, even though we have an Xbox. You’re probably thinking “Why get one if you have an Xbox already, can’t you already stream Netflix on there?” - Well, yes. You CAN stream Netflix on an Xbox….however you have to pay to have an Xbox Gold subscription. For those of us that just like to play our games and not go online with them, it seems rather silly to pay approx $60/year just for Netflix. Here is where the Roku comes in VERY handy…not to mention all the other stuff, there is even a model with video games.
We hope to have a channel on there too, eventually.-UPDATE- We DO have a channel!
The XD model (goes up to 1080p) retails for $79.99 and the XS Model (w/game remote) retails for $99.99. There is also an LT model for $49.99 (goes up to 720p), which would most likely suit most.
